Stanley/Stella vs Just Hoods: which hoodie should your team wear?

These are the two hoodie ranges we get asked for by name more than any other, and people usually arrive having already decided based on price alone. That is the wrong way round, because they are built for different jobs and the cheaper one is genuinely the right answer some of the time.

Here is the honest comparison.

The short version

Just Hoods by AWDis is the volume workhorse. If you are ordering fifty leavers' hoodies, kitting out a club where everyone pays for their own, or running an event where the budget has to stretch, this is the sensible choice. Huge colour range, sizes that go from kids through to adult, and a price that does not need defending to a committee.

Stanley/Stella is the premium choice. Heavier fabric, better fits, certified organic cotton, and a finish that reads as retail rather than promotional. If the hoodie is merch you intend to sell, a gift, or staff kit for a brand-led business, this is the one.

Neither is better. They are answers to different questions.

Fabric weight

This is the single biggest difference and the one that decides how the finished garment feels in the hand.

The Stanley/Stella Cruiser 2.0 is 350 gsm brushed 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton. That is a genuinely heavy hoodie, at the weight you would find on a retail rail rather than in a trade catalogue.

Just Hoods sits lighter across the core college hoodie range, which is a large part of why it costs less. For a hoodie that gets worn a dozen times over a summer, that is not a problem. For one that a member of staff wears five days a week through a winter, the weight starts to matter.

Fit

Stanley/Stella cuts closer to current clothing shapes. The Cruiser 2.0 is a relaxed medium fit and the range runs XXS to 5XL, which is a wider spread than most and useful on a mixed team.

Just Hoods is a more traditional, roomier college fit. That is exactly what most people want for a leavers' hoodie or a club run, and it is more forgiving when you are ordering sizes from a spreadsheet rather than measuring anyone.

How each one takes a logo

This is where the fabric weight comes back around.

On the Cruiser 2.0 we would almost always embroider the chest. At 350 gsm the brushed fleece supports the stitch properly, with no puckering around the logo. Stitch on a heavyweight hoodie is what makes it look like a garment somebody chose rather than one they were issued.

On Just Hoods we more often print. DTF handles full-colour artwork, big backs and fine detail cleanly, and there is no setup fee whatever the colour count. For names on the back, year groups, or a design with more than two colours, print is both better and cheaper.

You can do both on either. An embroidered chest with a printed back is the combination we produce most, and because it is all done under one roof in Birmingham it stays one job and one price.

Sustainability

If this is going in front of a committee, a client or a tender, it is worth knowing the difference.

Stanley/Stella's organic cotton is GOTS-certified, which requires traceability from post-harvest through to the finished garment. The recycled content in the blended styles is GRS-certified, the garments are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tested, and the company has been a Fair Wear Foundation member since 2012, meaning independent third-party factory audits rather than a self-declared code of conduct.

AWDis has its own sustainable line in Ecologie, which we also stock. But if the certification paperwork is going to be asked for, Stanley/Stella is the range with it already written down.

Price

Stanley/Stella hoodies start from around £24.99 for the Cruiser 2.0 before decoration. Just Hoods comes in meaningfully lower.

The honest way to think about that gap is per wear rather than per unit. A £25 hoodie somebody wears for three years is cheaper than a £12 one they stop wearing after a season. But that only holds if the hoodie is actually going to get that kind of use. For a one-weekend event, it does not, and paying the premium is just paying the premium.

So which one?

Choose Just Hoods if: you are ordering in volume, individuals are paying for their own, it is for an event or a school year group, or you want names and numbers printed on the back without the cost climbing.

Choose Stanley/Stella if: it is staff kit worn every day, merch you intend to sell, a gift, or anything where the hoodie represents a brand people will judge. Also choose it if you need certified organic cotton on paper.
